Remedy for abcesses in the ear: for this purpose the Kai Viti chew the leaves together with the soft inner stem of the Gasau, (Eulalia japonica) and put the pulp thus obtained into the orifice of the ear. They then ta, ke a young shoot of the Gasau and use it as a probe where with to break the abcess. Description: the Drala sala is in some places called the Drala wa. It is also called the Mulokaka and the Drala kaka. In Hawaii it is known as the Kolokolo. In Vanua Levu,, especially in the dry zone this shrubby plant grows as a rule close to the ground, in a thick mass of scented leaves. In Viti Levu it is oftener found growing as a small tree. There is a legend in the Pacific Islands that if the flower of the Drala sala, (Kolo kolo) is pulled the tears of heaven (rain) will fall. Note: the oil of Vitex trifolia is suitable for perfumery. The chief constituents are said to be 1-a-periene, camphine, terpinyl acetate, a-ditar-pine alcohol. | ||||
