Notes: Label source: Austria ? Bought in a market in Huancayo, Peru Opuscular source: Memorandum to Rosemary Angel, Museums from Paula Rudall: Rosemary - we have examined some of these wood fragments which you sent over they are probably from a shrub and there, fore very difficult to identify, especially as the wood is very variable (you can see the range from huge solitary vessels to very small ones, with the naked eye). We have eliminated Croton and Zanthoxylum, and Record and Hers (?) (1943 Timbers of The New, World) also gives several other woods with the same vernacular name (such as Virola, Bismia and pterocarpus) which we've also eliminated. The closest match I can find is to Callichlamys sp. which Record & Hers do not mention, so I dont know if it is used, medicinally. I'm afraid this is the best we can do at the moment, though perhaps if our Argentinian visitor Gustavo Giberti comes back, he might have some idea (he works on medicinal plants). Paula.
