Notes: | Label source: Dr Asa Gray Sept 17 1880. W G Wright, collector of Palms, Cacti, Lilies, Ferns etc. San Bernardino, Cal. Aug. 12 1880. To Dr Asa Gray, Cambrigde, Mass. Dear Sir, I have obtained the Chia seed you wished for and forward it by this mail. This, seed is used by the Indians & Whites as kind of medicinal drink a teaspoonful of seed is mixed in a glass of water, and in 20 seconds, or as soon as it becomes a little mucilaginous, is drunk. It is reputed to take away hunger or thirst or fatigue. I ha, ve repeatedly tried it, however, and am obliged to say that I discover no effect whatever. I am happy to have been of service to you in this little matter and will esteem it a favour to be of use to you at any time and in any way. Yours truely. | ||||
