| Notes: | Opuscular source: Letters between Dominican Bot Gard, Kew, and Report from Lewis & Peat Ltd 1. From A Keys, Dominica: Biscuits of rubber have been treated as follows; No 1. Latex subjected to the fumes of sulphur in a fumigating chamber for 3 hours. Coa, gulum rolled and hung up to dry. No 2. Same as 1, but twice amount of sulphur used. No 3 Latex coagulated spontaneously, rolled, and wet biscuit placed in fumigating chamber for 3 hours. Nos 4 - 8 have coagulated spontaneously, coagulum rolled, dried, and smoked for 2 days in smoke of a fire fed with dry coconut husks. Letter 2 is a report from Lewis and Peat Ltd, 27th June 1921 to Kew. As far as we can judge by appearance the rubber is quite good and if prepared in the ususal way undoubtedly would b, e as good as other marks and estates. If you require a chemical analysis you could go to Beadle & Stevens, London S E. 1. Is smooth unsmoked biscuit as is no. 2. No 3 is smooth, uneven in colour and bubbly, no 4 is smooth smoked biscuit, rather dark in, colour and bubbly, no. 5 is smooth smoked, lighter in colour than 4, and not so heavily smoked. no 6 is same as 4 but not so thick, no 7 is smooth smoked, oversmoked and rusty, no 8 is smooth smoked, slightly resinous and little over smoked.
