Notes: | Label source: Samples 1 & 2; Extract from Mr D Yeowards letter to Admin, Fiji April, 1902. The tree was planted in 1893 and is now about 9 years of age, its present height is 45 to 50 ft with an average girth at 5 ft from the ground of 4 ft. The tree f, lowered for the first time in 1899, but did not fruit. It flowered again in 1900 and set several seed from which some 12 plants were raised. It has seeded again this year but not freely. There is a tree in the garden younger by 3 years, seeding more fr, eely. The growth of the tree in the gardens here compares favourably with that of other countries leaving little more to be desired, and it is a pity there is not a well developed plantation of several acres in connection with the gardens. Collected by m, aking v shaped incisions in the trunk near the base (up to 5ft) samples not cured. |
