Notes: | Opuscular source: Letter from Allahabad, 13 July 73. To Dr Forbes Watson, India Mus. Sir, I have to pleasure to forward a parcel containing a sample of vegetable wax obtained from the milky juice of the Euphorbia pentagona, I think. This plant grows fr, eely in all the lower hills below Simla, and at present as far as I can learn is brought to no use other than growing it as a hedge in the plains. The milk is thought poisonous by the natives. What is its value for trade purposes? I imagine it might be, mixed with India rubber, in its vulcanised state for domestic use. I have waterproofed paper with it, and perhaps cloth might be rendered the same. Rest of letter is difficult to read. |
