Notes: | Label source: Used to dye wool in the cloth factory at Bradford on Avon. Used for making paths in the neighbourhood Opuscular source: Dear Mr Jackson, Enclosed I send you a box of spent fustick which has been used for dyeing wool in the cloth factory, at Bradford on Avon, and of which the garden walks are made in and about the town. With it I enclose a sprig gathered from a tree growing opposite the Manor House at Beckington near Bath. Can you tell me what it is? You see the glands on the leaf stal, ks. The people there call it Japanese Cherry. There are two trees of this kind about as large as ordinary apple trees. Yours truly Prior. Prunus pseudo-cerasus Lindl. - Native of Japan |
