Notes: | Label source: Portion of hollow trunk containing a deposit of carbonate of lime due to precipitation from water. Flora of Gold Coast. Specimen resembling fossil wood from the Gold Coast. The specimen is not a block of petrified wood, the chief part of it, being merely a deposit of carbonate of lime, formed no doubt in the hollow of the trunk of a tree, as stated on the label, and due to precipitation from water containing the lime in solution. At the periphery the specimem includes portions of the wood wh, ich originally bounded the hollow. These are only slightly infiltrated with carbonate of lime, and retain their woody character, though somwhat rotten & shrunken. L.A.B. 3.11.14. |
