Notes: Label source: Crystallised antiarine, C14 H10 O5, active principle of the juice of the Upas Tree and the resin, C16 H12 O, from the juice of the Upas Tree, not poisonous. Upas or Antsjar of Java, respecting which the most extraordinary stories have been, circulated; among others, the statement that no living animal was to be seen for a distance of 15 or 20 miles around the tree producing it. The tree, however, usually grows where malaria prevails. The juice is collected from incisions in the stem, and in, spissated, with the addition of Arum, Onions etc. and used as a poison.
