Notes: | Label source: See letter 114.1955. Diseased root. The peculiar coral like growth from the alder root sent for examination is caused by a minute parasite called Plasmodiophora alni. The parasite belongs to the group of plants known as Myxogastres, and, is closely allied to the parasite causing the disease popularly known as finger and toe on the roots of cabbages and turnips.
