Notes: | Label source: Importation of wurrus (Capila podie dye of Ainslie). See Phar Journ xii p 589 p 368. A few days since we observed in the hnds of a drug broker in the city a sample of this substance, of which one chest, imported from Bombay, was sellingas, Dragons Blood. Wurrus is a brick red powder, collected from the seed vessels of a Euphorbiaceous tree Rottlera tinctoria Roxb. occurring in Arabia, E Africa, and in various parts of India. It is used in these countries as a dye for silk, and is also adm, inistered internally as remedy in cutaneous disorders. Examination with a good lens and solution in alcohol, readily distinguish it from dragons blood, which is sometimes brought to Europe in the powder state. (Sample includes two pot samples of kamale, residue.) |
