Notes: | Label source: Fruit of Cocculus indicus. Wellcome Bureau - 10 Henrietta Cavendish Sq, W1. Seeds obtained by Lt Col CM Wengon? RAMC in Palestine. The natives powder the seeds and mix the powder with dough, using the mixture as fish poison in the capture, of food fish. Apparently the fish nibble at the dough and are soon afterwards anaesthetized by the action of the poison and in consequence float to the surface. The action of the poison is said to last for about half an hour and the fish are then able, to regain their powers (See letter 175, 1917, xi. p.146) |
