Notes: Label source: Restio Order. A group of herbs or undershrubs with creeping rhizomes. Abundant in South Africa. Their chief uses are for making brooms by the natives, and for thatching their huts. The following are some of the species exhibited: Restio til, iaceus Rottb., R. bifarius Mast., R. digitatus Thb., R. callistachyus Kunth., R. bifurcus Nees., Hypodiscus oliverianus Mast., Cannomois scirpoides Mast., and Elegia parviflora Kth. Observe flower spikes of Thamnochortus giganteus Kth., T. argenteus Kth.,, and T. cernuus Kth., imported into England from South Africa for decorative purposes.
