Notes: | Label source: Weak stemmed, arching branched tall shrub to 3 or 4 m tall, with stems to 10 cm diam. at base. Leaves dark green above, greenish white beneath. Flowers actinomorphic, petals yellow, spreading, sepals strongly reflexed. Stamens 6, short,, equal in length, spreading. Stigma green. Seeds surrounded by white and more or less translucent, very slightly sweetish, wet pulp. Fruit matures by the fruit coat coming more or less loose from the fleshy white aril, and breaking into 4 valves. Seeds, 2, the replum (placenta) a thin soft strand of fibres clearly separable (wood sample). This, and a few acacias, the only green plants in this thorn community. A. weeds in vacant sandy lots and pastures around airport (Guayaquil) elevation ca. 10m. B.gr, azed, now very dry (locally very wet and muddy in the wet season), savannah of small trees to 4m tall, with only Capparis cordata R. & P. green at present, just east of airport. |
