Notes:
Label source: Hard fine grained and attractively coloured, this timber is highly esteemed by the Japanese. It is noted for its toughness and durability in the open air and in the ground, but is too expensive for general use as a building material. It is, better known as a decorative wood for making ornamental trays and cabinets. Letter dated 11th June 1924, Dear Lady Church, Please accept my best thanks for the beautiful Japanese box which you have presented to the Museums. This is a most interesting add, ition to our collections which I am very glad to have. With very kind regards, Yours sincerely ??x0Dx0Ax0Dx0ADisplayed in 'Kew in the city' at Wizadry in Wood, Carpenters' Hall, Trogmorton Avenue, London EC2N 2JJ, Oct 12-15, 2016 (curated collection of wooden ob, jects and rare timbers from EBC)
