Notes: | Label source: Gathered from the trenches in Flanders, May 24th 1915 after an attack of gas by the Germans. Green fields rapidly became whitish and presented the appearance of drought. Other herbs appeared as if frost-bitten. L.A.B. 1.6.15: Here are the, leaves, which are now fairly limp after being kept damp since yesterday. In some of the leaves the gas appears to have had the effect of turning the chlorophyll (or some of it) pale brown, or yellowish or olive green. |
