Notes: | Label source: This indigenous ginger is known in Bua as the Cahgolaya or Laya Laya, and as Drove on the Sacaudrove coast; apparently in the latter instance, gaining its appellation from the place where it is found. In Nadroga it is called Dalaheka. It is, the only wild ginger in Fiji. The flowers are small and white, the axcels, or bracts turn a rich crimson in the hurricane season, and have been in consequence given the name 'Hurricane Flower' by the European settlers, as well as the natives. When it fl, owers at the same time as the Doi, (Alphtonis excelsa) and the Gasau (Eulalia japonica) the Fijians are certain there will be a hurricane. It grows both in the bush and on the hillsides, and about April it is in seed, and is often used as a laxative for c, hildren. The natives use a drink made from its root for colds, indigestion, stomach-ache and bladder troubles. They scrape the rhizomes, crush and then boil thoughly, and make use of the 'tea' thus made.......Rather strangely the Cagolaya is in some parts, of Viti Levu called Dani Dani, for the Northopanax multijugum is known as Dani Dani in Bua Province. But the ginger here referred to may be the Beta, a large white-flowering ginger which grows in gardens.. ......(Rest is missing !)
