The largest l, eaf is 6 ft 3 ins long, 2 1/2 ins diam at base, and at 1 ft below apex 1 1/4 ins diam. 4. The leaves are all quite erect. 5. Channel extends from base to apex, and is as deep and as wide, a little below the apex as it is at the base. 6. The leave, s are all quite acute except when damaged. 7. The plant has never flowered here, we are not tropical enough for it. The leaves are dark green, with whitish markings, the transverse markings the most perceptible. (Sgns.) JMW. See letter 19-1912,viii p, 93. ' The fibre sent was extracted by hand, not by a machine, the leaves weighed 6lbs; and the fibre when clean 2 oz, this would be a good return, but the plant is not suitable for our climate. |
