| Notes: | Label source: Report by Messrs Ide & Christie, 72 Mark Lane, London EC, Dated 24th January 1887. Fibres grown in RBG and prepared by WE Deaths machine. 6 components; 1. Furcraea cubensis Vent. Has only a moderate strength and is much weaker but has a, finer fibre than Sisal Hemp. It has a fair colour and would compete with Mauritius Hemp - Value #25 per ton. 2. Sansevieria sulcata Bojer. From a commercial point of view is similar to above and is of about equal strength. It is however cleaner and w, ould also compare with Mauritius Hemp. Value #26. 3. Sansevieria longiflora. A very bright clean strong fibre and in every way a most desirable commercial article and would compete with the best Sisal hemp for rope making purposes Value #30. 4. Sansevi, eria guineensis, Rather dirty through defective3 cleaning Value #23. Short and only moderate strength. We reported on fibre from this plant to Prof Thiselton Dyer on 24th Sept last when we valued the sample at #20. The difference now is due solely to, the advance in the price of Sisal Hemp. 5. Sansevieria Kirkii, Baker. Rather short but very clean and good colour. The strength likewise is fair. Value #27. 6. Sansevieria cylindrica Bojer. This is the second best fibre amoung your samples and except, that it does not appear so strong it is almost equal to S longiflora Value #28. | ||||
