Notes: | Opuscular source: Letter 489, 1921, xiv. p 178. The chief component of the sample has been identified as the root of species Smilax, but a determination of the species cannot be made. The root may perhaps be the species which used to be imported into, Lisbon from Brazil, and in that case, would be one of the Sarsaparilla roots, a different one from the Honduras Sarsaparilla. Some pieces of other roots, not Smilax, are present in the sample. They represent about 1.6 of the wt of the whole, and may ha, ve been dug up accidentally with the Smilax roots. |
