Notes: | Label source: Soluble root No 1603, I have now compared 'Soluble root' with a species of Asphodelus from the gardens, and discussed the matter with Mr Summerhayes. As a result of this I think Mr Burkill's suggestion of Asphodelus is probably correct. The, diagram in Greenish's article is very misleading and I think it must have been made from old dry material C.R.M. 2.3.33 No 163.33, 4th March 1933 reply ' the root appears to be that of a deliaceous plant probably a species of Asphodelus. certain specieso, f this genus are known to yield a muscilage or gum from the root and it is probable that the name 'Soluble Root' has been given for this reason (see copy in Liliaceae) JHH |
