Acknowledge the receipt of their letter of the 4th inst. and in reply to say that the sample of 'Fibres de Ticum' from Brazil submitted for identification, appears to be that of the leaves of the 'Tucum Palm' (Astrocaryum vulgare). According to Dodge ('Useful Fibre Plants of The World') 'Tucum Thread' derived from the unopened leaves is chiefly used for bowstrings and fishing nets. |
