Notes: Label source: Mr N Brown examined the plant of Typha utilis Colenso No. 6153 which was sent to Kew in 1853 and found it quite distinct from any described species. J.H.H Mar. 23 1904. 223/1857. No. 3937. A small loaf made of the Pollen of Typha. It is not, a good one the season being too far advanced. They are considered choice morsels by the natives when fresh (i.e.newly baked). It has a very rich smell resembling gingerbread. I feel assured that this Typha is not T. augustifolia at least it does not agre, e with your description (B.Flora) nor with that of Kunths (Eu?Plants) It is 10 to 12 ft high T. utilis ?. (See No. 6153 T.utilis) J.H.H. Mar 24 1904. Extract from Museum Entry Book No. 223.1851.
