Notes: | Label source: Dr Metcalfe. 16.xi.50. Anatomical examination of the leaf structure of the two museum specimens labelled 'Alisma plantago' and 'Posidonia caulinii' indicates that both belong to the same genus. Both have hypodermal layers of sclerenchyma an, d the arangement of epidermal cells is identical. Casual inspection also supports this theory. It is suggested that the A.plantago is in fact Posidonia since both specimens agree with the descriptions of this plant, whereas there are striking differences, between the A.plantago and some fresh material of this genus which has been examined. M.Y.Start. I have seen Dr Start's slides and agree with her conclusion. C.R. Metcalfe. 17.11.50. |
