Opuscular source: Letter 315,1923:XV.p.105 - Ball of fibrous material from South Australia. Rev EH Goddard, Clyffe Vicarage, Swindon. The specimen is composed of the fibre of P.australis, a marine flowering plant, which is abundant on several parts of th, e coast of Australia. The soft parts of the plant decay away leaving the fibre, which may accumulate in very large quanities where there is sufficiently sheltered shallow water eg. in parts of Spencer's Gulf and St.Vincents Gulf. Where the shore has a ce, rtain character, some of the loose fibre may be rolled into balls by the action of the water. The body suggestive of a stalk in the specimens sent is merely an accidentally entangled fragment. A few years ago Posidonia fibre was being dredged and put to d, ifferent uses. L.A.B. 9.7.23
