The fibre is made by forcing solution of Na alginate through the very fine perforations in a small metal plate a spinnerette - see specimen, into a solution of CaCl,2, which converts the sodium salt into ins, oluble Ca alginate. These fibres are spun to form a thread which is woven into gauze. |
