Notes: | Label source: Ash balls made from the fronds of bracken. In Monmouthshire they collect the fronds of this species during the summer months and burn them; the ash is then moistened sufficiently to enable it to be made into balls, which are dried ready fo, r use in washing all kinds of clothing. They fetch from 3 to 4 shillings per 100 in the market. The introduction of soda has decreased the demand for them. |
