Notes: | Label source: From which a type of Gamboge is obtained. Aphyllophorales Opuscular source: Extract of letter from Mr JJ Humel, Yorkshire College, Leeds to Director dated Nov 19th 1897. Polyporus hispidus contains a yellow mordant colouring matter in mode, rate quanities but the colours obtained are not bright enough nor is the fungus sufficiently ?? in colour? ?? it of commercial value in export. P.hispidus yields a yellow substance corresponding with Gamboge yellow. It is insoluble in water but readily so, luble in ether and alcohol. It is abundant in the cell walls and cell coutegals (?) and also ?? on the surface. |
