Notes: | Label source: From the Bureau of Agric. Manila. Feb 10th 1906. to Director - I have the honour to forward you by mail two packages one of which contains a mature leaf and two small leaves of the so called Philippine magney plant, the other several flower, s, a number of bulbils and a sample of fibre of the same plant These leaves and flowers were taken from plants growing about 4 miles from the city of Manila. At the time they were secured I cut 12 mature leaves from two plants growing in what was little m, ore than beach sand. The dimensions of these leaves varied as follows; weight from 25 to 31 ozs., length from 5ft 8 1/2 inc to 6ft 5 inc; width at base from 2 1/2 to 3 inc., width at widest part from 4 to 4 1/2 inches; thickness at base about 1 inc., leng, ht of marginal teeth about 3/16 of an inch; distance between marginal teeth from 3/4 to 1 1/4 inches, lenght of terminal spine from 3/8 to 5/8 inc. We are very desirous to learn if this is the same plant as that identified at Kew some years ago as A.vinip, ara. Thanking you for any information that you may give us in regard to this question I am Sir ..... HJ Edwards, Fibre Expert, Bureau of Agric. Note - This is the same plant as that recieved from A Gollam HM Consul at Manila July 17th 1891 and named A.vi, nipara by Mr Baker. Signed Otto Stapf 23/03/1906. |
