Notes: Label source: Letter sent to archives. First German Patent Sieve Factory. (Substitute for horse hair). Having learnt your address through the German Rope newspaper,I ask you kindly to let me know the price of the book Report of the Botanical Gardens at K, ew [= Kew Bulletin?], and where I can obtain it. You are perhaps in a position to give me information as to whether there is a more suitable fibre than Sisal and Manila Hemp. I manufacture these into a fabric, which should replace horse hair, but cannot y, et feel quite satisfied as regards the difficulty of manufacture, which these fibres present. As you know, these fibres split very readily; is there (perhaps) another fibre that would be more suitable? I beg to enclose a small sample, from which you will, see the kind of fibre I can make use of. Translation by Mr Boodle 29/03/1909. Mr Boodle suggests that the glossy fibre is the Manila Hemp and the other Sisal.
