Notes: Label source: Common forest tree throughout Canada, of an average height 110 ft, height to first limbs 65 ft, and diameter 24 to 30 inches often larger. White, soft close grained and not liable to warp or split, much used in cabinet work, furniture and m, usical instruments, pianofortes, as cutting boards for curriers, shoe-makers, as it does not cross the knife in the direction of the grain; it turns cleanly and is much used in manufacturing bowls, pails, shovels etc. At port of lakes, #37 sterling per 1,, 000 cu ft, freight to Quebec #7. Spec. gravity 0.48, weight of cu ft 26 lbs. Of the same genus as lime or linden in England.
