Notes: Label source: Universally used in country places and by the poorer classes in towns, price from 3d to 10d per pair. The largest pair are such as are used by labourers in the field and masons. Generally made of fir but stronger ones made of Birch these, however are not so warm. Tradesman of whom the present specimens were purchased has had about 3000 pairs through his hands during a period of 9 months. Leather shoes are also worn. Letter in archives
