Notes: Label source: Block of wood from the Azores. It appears most probable on account of the microscopic structure that this wood belongs to a species of Juniperus. There being no specimen of Juniperus brevifolia (?) Aub. available for comparison, Henriques d, etermination (on the label of the specimen) cannot be verified. L.A. B. 23.V1.09. (Copy J.H.H. 25.V1.09). From Mr Freze? Wood of Cupressus sempervirens var glauca ? found at a depth of 100 meters below the surface of the ground at St. Michaels. This tree, it has been said was originally introduced to the Azores from Goa in the East Indies but as no indigenous cypresses from there it must have been introduced first into Goa and then taken back again. Dr Masters states that ?? Henriques has shown ..? pupara, tions and otherwise that this wood is identical with Juniperus brevifolia and is not a cupressus. IRJ April 24/95.
