Notes: | Label source: Codys Tree, now a gnarled and branching stump is preserved for its association with aeronautical development at the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough. It was used to picket the first army biplane made by the late SF Cody in 1908 The, machine was tethered to the tree by a landing wheel so that Cody could test the reactions of the controls in a strong wind even before the engine was installed. It was from Farnborough Airfield that SF Cody made the first aeroplane flight in Great Brita, in, in May, 1908. |
