Notes: | Label source: (Letter 232, 1917 XI.p. 162) The wood was part of an old four decker ship which was anchored in the river for many years and now being broken up. The owner stated that the timber has special value as it naturally grows in strong curved form, ation which adapts it to the lines required for ship-building. He seems to have some reason to believe that the wood comes from one of the Southern States, and was of the opinion that it was Oregon Pine or Douglas Fir Commonly known as Hacmatac (Extract f, rom the letter H Bolton, Bristol Museum to Hillier dated June 23, 1917) Probably correct as Hacmatac Larix americana J.H.H.
