Notes: | Label source: Desert Survey Office, 37, Sharia El-Falaky, Cairo. Dear Sir, The enclosed section was cut from a tree trunk found on the floor of a Roman or Plulemaic ? temple in the Western Desert of Egypt, about 25 miles south of El Dabaa on the Mediterr, anean Coast. It was buried under a metre of soil, and from the associated objects appeared contemporaneous with the destruction of the temple in early times. There are no trees of any kind within 100 kms. nowadays, and should it be possible to determine t, he species, the information would be extremely interesting. I should be greatly obliged if you or your staff could throw any light on the matter. Yours faithfully G. W. Murray. (Sub-director, Desert Surveys.) The above Mr GW Murray is the son of Mr GM Mur, ray formerly Keeper of Bot. Dept. |
