Notes: Label source: A large tree growing up to 120ft high and exceeding 6 ft diam. Dark reddish brown, hard, heavy (about 70lbs per cu ft) splits easily and is comparatively easy to work. Favourite wood in Colony for all outdoor work where strength and durabi, lity are required, and is much used for railway sleepers, wagons, bridges and building const. Yields a well known balata gum of commerce, intermediary between rubber and guta percha. Known as bullet wood in Tobago.
