Notes: Martin Slocock: Canyon de Chelly, North East Arizona was occupied by the Anasazi Indians ('the Ancient Ones') until 1300 AD. In the Early Basketmakers era [? - 450] 'tightly woven baskets, occasionally sealed with pine pitch which served as storage vess, els, canteens and stew pots'. This technique of pot or basket making is still, but rarely, used.
