Notes: Barkcloth wrapped around a bark girdle. Locally called ayunte. Used in male life transformation rituals by the Nuaulu people of Seram island. Barkcloth is made from several species. This species in particular is used for village elders and the inauguratio, n of new clan chiefs. It is usually decorated with red, yellow, blue and black pigment but it was not deemed appropriate to bring decorated barkcloth out of the village.
