Notes: Womens carrying basket, which is either carried on the back or tied around the waist. It is generally used for carrying goods to and from the fields, or for collecting fruit and vegetables. This basket was made by Rip Tei and her husband Lawa Benut, bot, h of Long Mio. Traditionally, it is the women who weave the body of the basket. The men make the frame and base, and weave the rim. However, there are a few women who are skilled at doing both. These baskets are still widely used There are about 8 wo, men who are experts at making such baskets, but only 3 or 4 men who are skilled at finishing them off. They are sold within the village (35RM for locals) and also for tourists (40 or 45 RM). Frame and woven body is or Wei peit (Calamus pogonacanthus) B, ase is of wei sia (Daemonorops fissa), Rim is of wei darri (Calamus javensis) and the red dye is from the fruits of wei kurad (Daemonorops didymophylla).
