Notes: Label source: Purpleheart ( Peltogyne pophrocardia Gr.) As the name indicates the heartwood is a characteristic dark purple. It darkens after a few years but it should not be impossible to devise means of retaining the colour. The wood is heavy, hard,, strong and durable. It is used for furniture, walking sticks, turnery and inlay work. It is fine grained and takes a high polish. A certain amount is used in building construction it is obtainable in large sizes, weight about 70lbs. per cubic foot.
