Notes: Label source: 19km down left hand forestry track 172 km from Nata along Nata-Kasane road. Dioecious, deciduous tree to 13.5m. Bark smooth to flaking, yellowish to papery beneath flakes. Wood very light. In deep sand in woodland. Other sp present = Pt, erocarpus angolensis, Erythrophleum, Baikaea plurijuga trees, Bauhinia petersiana, Combretum shrubs and andropogonoid grasses and Digitaria. Can occur scattered within the woodland but also can form groves (eg. at 25km from the main road). Elephants very, fond of this fruit, seeds frequently found in elephant dung and many trees have been pushed over. Literature reports this to be an important food plant of the Bushmen - both fruit and seeds. Vouchers at Kew and Botswana, specimens taken from regrowth as, large trees had already lost their leaves.
