Notes: Label source: A native of the British West Indies and Venezuela. This tree yields copaiba oil which is used medicinally. The wood is of an oily nature weighing about 55 lbs. per cubic foot and of dark reddish brown colour, often figured with darker strea, ks, hard and durable. It is very tough and is a favourite wood for railway carriages and for joinery and wheelwrights' work. It makes excellent furinture. Unfortunately the tree is not plentiful and existing plantations will not mature for many years.
