Notes: Label source: Valued at 14 pounds per ton. Known locally as 'Gumbo Miss' gives crop of fibre 4 months after planting and is easy to extract than any of the other fibres. Good colour and moderate strength but the filaments are ....?.... which would lead, to their being greatly broken in preparing them for spinning. We think however that it would meet with a market at 14 pounds per ton in London today. Report by Messrs Ide & Christie Sept 30 1891
