Notes: Label source: Specimens from Lulindi Tanganyika Terr. Dr JB Christopherson, 29 Devonshire Place W1. - The leaf has been identified as mango. The other specimens, viz A. wood with bark, B root and D root cannot be identified. LAB 17.8.27. Mango suggested, for the leaf by Dr Dalziel and this naming confirmed by anatomical comparison. Small box containing pieces of wood. They are used by the natives as a remedy for leprosy. I think that the wood is filed and the filings are drunk (ie the larger stick) The, smaller twigs are cut into pieces and soaked in water and the patient bathes the whole body in the water. This also applies to the flat pieces. The leaf did contain something that was given for a cough. (Extract from letter Dr Christopherson) JHH
