Notes: Label source: Nos 168 and 173. It is cult all the year round. After a months growth it is cut off and dried in the sun for 2 or 3 days; it is then powdered and placed in the water in large vessels and constantly stirred for about 3 or 4 hours, it is th, en allowed to stand until the following morning (12 to 18 hours). The remains of the plant are then taken out, and the colouring matter is then drawn off and laid on cloths in shallow hollows in the ground. The water drains away leaving a thick deposit, of indigo dye for dyeing about 1lb of Thub? is mixed with 3 or 4 lbs of dye. They also put in a few dates which we supposed to fasten the dye.
