Notes: Label source: From a sample of Algerian hay Opuscular source: Letter - Fishers Buildings, 20 Victoria Street, Liverpool dated 20th Dec 1907 to JM Hillier Esq. Dear Sir, Mr Alfred Smetham, of Liverpool, advised us to send you, which we are doing today b, y parcel post, a sample of hay, which has been taken from a parcel of Algerian hay. We may tell you that we have imported some thousands of tons of this hay, and until now have never been asked what is our opinion of the properties, as per sample we are s, ending you. And further they ask us whether it is injurious or not. Can you assist us by giving your opinion as to wether it is injurious for feeding horses or cows. This information will be very valuable to us. In our own mind we have no hesitation in co, ming to the conclusion that there is nothing injurious in it. We gain this knowledge by the fact that the principal horse owners, not only in London and Liverpool, have used this hay to a very great extent. Should you wish for any further information we s, hall be gald to forward same to you. The horse owners here that have asked us this question particularly draw our attention to the heads of the hay, which seems the part that they wish to find whether it is injurious. They call our attention to the red he, ads of the grasses (Sgnd) Henry W Peabody & Co Named in herbarium - the prickly pods might cause inflammation WBH
