Notes: Label source: This popular beverage was first found in the Cape Colony about the year 1870. It is largely used by the rural populations of the Cape and neighbouring colonies. It is indigenous to the Cape and is inter exported throughout the whole of S, Africa. It is valuable to dyspeptics, and it drunk with impunity and with beneficial effects. It is recommended by many of the medical profession, in the place of tea and coffee, as a mild exhilarating and soothing beverage. In the prepared state it can, be made in the same way as ordinary tea, allowing it to draw in the teapot for say fifteen minutes, and adding milk and sugar as desired.
