Notes: Set of 30 gambling sticks with case made by the Kwakwaka'wakw (Kwakiutl) people of Hope Island. The gambling sticks made from crab apple wood are called Lebain in the Kwakwala language. Handwritten note reads: Gambling sticks, Crabapple, Pyrus rivularis, Doug., Xumtaspi, Hope Island. Newcombe was paid $5.00 for this item in 1900.
