Notes: Label source: Common creeping weed on waste ground and road sides, stalks numerous, about 2 ft long slender, procumbent, leaves cordate ovate, unequal, opposite edges waved, flowers small, pink, sessile on the apex of the pedicel, peduncles from the axil, s and ends of the branches, fruit oblong, dull green or brownish, viscid, about the size of a carraway seed, longitudinally 5 grooved studded all over with glandular hairs, root twisted, often as thick as the finger, when fresh, whitish fleshy 2 or 3 bran, ched a foot long or more, taste bitterish nauseous. Properties as an expectorant are noticed in the Pharm of India. In Goa it is esteemed as diuretic in gonorrhoea. In Peru B scandens is used for the same purpose. Ainslie mentions the use of the dry r, oot in doses of a tsp of the powder twice daily as a laxative.
